Brane gas cosmology is a string-motivated
model of the early Universe which makes crucial use
of degrees of freedom and symmetries which are
particular to string theory. It promises to
yield a nonsingular cosmological model which only
allows three spatial dimensions to become large.
There is a natural radion stabilization mechanism.
In this talk, I will discuss promises and challenges
for brane gas cosmology.
