Massive Binaries via Disk Assisted Capture
Nickolas Moeckel (Univ. Colorado)

Nickolas Moeckel, John Bally (University of Colorado)

The multiplicity of massive stars is higher than that of their lower-mass cluster siblings, and the dense environments in which they are found suggests that interactions with neighboring stars impacts their formation. Disk-assisted capture has been shown to be insignificant for solar-mass stars; we present the results of studies suggesting that for massive stars, capture during the protostellar phase is a mechanism that cannot be ignored. We note that the Cep A HW2 region may show signs of interactions leading to a captured binary.
