The spaghetti has high energy unoccupied Bi conduction bands, the antibonding CuO bands with a small dispersion at the Fermi level (but they are correlation split in reallity of course), and the bonding CuO bands deep below. The dispersion of the antibonding bands gives t's which, squared and divided by a reasonalbe U (and multiplied by 4), give J-values which compare in order of magnitude well with those extracted from susceptibility data by means of mean field spin wave theory (~1mev).
