Sensory Maps
Dr. Fred Wolf
In this session, we will discuss the issue of selectivity maps in primary sensory cortex, with an emphasis on orientation and direction selectivity maps in visual cortex. The main features of the maps, obtained with optical imaging of the cortex, will be discussed. More detailed description, including the classification of topological defects, will be introduced. We will then talk about the theoretical models which were proposed to explain the evolution of the maps. Classical models, such as the Kohonen Map model, will be introduced, as well as models based on the known intracortical connectivity. Detailed comparison between the models and experimental data will be presented.

Audio for this talk requires sound hardware, and RealPlayer or RealAudio by RealNetworks.
