Comparison of the Nernst signal in (La,Nd)_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 and Nd-free LSCO (x = 0.10 in both samples). Above the LTT-LTO transition (74 K), the Nernst coefficient
v
is nominally identical in the two samples. Below 74 K,
v
in the Nd-free sample (Sample 3) diverges to about 2,000 nV/KT at 30 K (open squares). By contrast,
v
remains near 40 nV/KT in the Nd-doped sample N (it increases slightly below 20 K, solid squares). As the superconducting transition is strongly suppressed by static charge ordering in the LTT phase of Sample N, the strong suppression of
v
provides strong support for identifying the diverging component of
v
in Sample 3 with superconducting fluctuations. [Xu et al. Nature 2000]
