The temperature dependence of the anomalous Nernst coefficient
v-vN
(measured relative to the normal-state value
vN
) in 5 crystals of LSCO (0.05, 0.07, 0.10 and 0.17). As
T
increases above
T
c, the vortex Nernst signal is expected to fall steeply to zero (as observed in optimally doped YBCO). In LSCO, however, the Nernst signal falls rather slowly, asymptoting to the normal- state value above 100 K. Note that the onset temperature (defined operationally as that at which the anomalous signal exceeds the experimental resolution of 2 nV/KT) increases as
x
decreases. The sample
x
= 0.05 is especially interesting. The anomalous signal extends to 150 K even though
T
c is nominally zero (below 4 K).
