Electronic Ordering in the Pseudogap State of High-Tc Cuprates
Ali Yazdani (UIUC)

The pseudogap state of high-Tc cuprates have been the subject of numerous proposals for exotic ordering phenomena. Using the scanning tunneling microscope we have for the first time probed the electronic states of this state on the nanometer scale. We have discovered that electronic states involved in the pseudogap state are spatially organized. I will describe these experiments and various proposals that have been put forward to explain its finding. Reference: Vershinin et al. Science v303, p1995 (2004).
