Does the Everyday World Really Obey Quantum Mechanics?
Dr. Anthony Leggett, ITP & Univ of Illinois
Consideration of the classic quantum measurement paradox leads to the question: What actual experimental evidence do we have that the formalism of quantum mechanics can be extrapolated from the atomic level to that of everyday life? I review this problem with reference both to the "Bell's-theorem" experiments and to recent and planned work in the area of quantum effects in macroscopic systems such as superconducting devices.
