I will overview recent infrared studies of high quality La2-xSrxCuO4 single crystals starting from ultra-low dopings and continuing in the superconducting region of the phase diagram. Spectroscopic measurements uncovered metallic conductivity at doping levels as small as 1%. The optical conductivity revealed significant anisotropy in the regime of the so called diagonal spin stripes (x<0.05). These experiments indicate that the formation of spin-ordered textures in La2-xSrxCuO4 series has a profound effect on the dynamics of charge carriers.
